2009 RIDE COMPLETED
Whether riding for the cause or riding because a good friend, father, brother or uncle has it or has had it , 97 bikes of all shapes & sizes plus a couple of cars, set off again on the 2nd Rumble Ride to raise awareness about Prostrate Cancer. Altogether about 125 people went on the trip. This time we were headed for Darwin, so on the morning of April 13th, after a sausage sizzle breakfast put on by the Rocky Hogs we saddled up & all headed west to Barcaldine.
The beauty about this ride is that everyone can ride at their own pace, either on
their own or with a group of friends & with the security of a back up vehicle & trailer
behind them. Thank you Ken. The amount of pre-
Also a great big thank you to Dr Sandy & Cathy who did a superb job along the way. The entertainment value of the presentation that they did in Barcaldine was excellent. The men who were present certainly learnt a lot about their prostrate from the unique dummy that was used in the presentation. Also Cathy had another way to bring the message home as to why we were on the trip. We had the Dick of the Day which was greatly appreciated as a bit of light hearted fun.
There were no accidents on the journey & only a couple of breakdowns that were able to be fixed so all could carry on on their way. I saw a Harley Davidson being “fixed’ with a hammer & chisel, but they did get it going again. [I think]
When we arrived in Darwin, The Boys with Bikes took us on a superb Thunder Run into the centre of Darwin where we presented the Mayor of Darwin with a painting of the Fitzroy on Quay from the Mayor of Rockhampton. The boys controlled the run from start to finish with no stops. Well done Boys.
When all was said & done the Prostrate Cancer Council was about $48000.00 better off & looking forward to next year. The friendships which have been formed on this & last years run have brought people together whom wouldn’t normally have bonded, so here’s to a great ride & a wonderful group of people.
